Classic jazz cadence every improviser must know.
Показывает, как текущий элемент связан с ладом, тональностью и используется в музыке.
Directed sound with growing pull toward the tonic. Subdominant (ii) creates gentle motion, dominant (V) — pronounced tension, tonic (I) — complete resolution. One of the most complete cadences in harmony.
The tonic provides a point of rest and stability. The subdominant sets the harmony in motion, moving away from that stability. The dominant builds tension that strives to resolve back to the tonic.
ii starts motion from rest. V — the climax of tension: the tritone between the 3rd and 7th of the dominant literally "pulls" the harmony to resolution. I — complete resolution, a sense of arrival. Each step follows the circle of fifths, making this the most natural cadence in tonal music.
Foundation of jazz harmony — appears in every standard. Used as a modulation "bridge" between keys: ii–V in the new key = instant modulation. Appears in pop music in disguise (IV–V–I — simplified version).
